We were robbed of Euro 500+ that we had left in the luggage in our hotel room. Frustrating as this was, the attitude of the hotel personnel was even worst. They took the whole issue quite lightly, and it wasn?t until I threatened that I wouldn?t pay that they escalated the issue to Accor?s upper management (Accor is the hotel chain Mercure belongs to). I found it extremely humiliating when the hotel manager offered us a free breakfast as a make-up attempt. She later on sent a bottle of champagne to our room, together with a hand-written note (now that I think of it, that was really nice of her), but by then I was already fuming, so I sent the bottle back. Wrong decision, as I had never before tasted champagne worth Euro 500+ the bottle... The Accor management is now helping us in dealing with the hotel?s insurance agency? PS In the light of what happened, I somehow wished there were some really bad things I could say about this hotel? there aren?t many.
