Description
|
The cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic art, has witnessed some of the greatest events in history, from the barefoot Saint-Louis, wearing the Crown of Thorns (1239) to the commemoration ceremony for Général de Gaulle (1970), not forgetting the crowning of Napoleon (1804) and the celebration of the Liberation of Paris (1944)!
A stained-glass gem...
Fifteen magnificent 15-metre high stained-glass windows transfuse an exquisitely coloured luminosity.
Sainte-Chapelle was constructed to house the holy relics of the Passion: a small piece of the cross and Christ’s famous Crown of Thorns, which were said to have cost Louis IX (Saint-Louis) three times as much as the construction of the building Sainte-Chapelle
