Description
|
The architecture of the Georges Pompidou Center, which marked the 1970's with its high tech appearance, provided a daring contrast with the old traditional aspect of the Beaubourg area. (Architects: Piano Rodgers - 1977 - Bodin - 1997-2000). This Mecca of modern and contemporary culture houses the National Museum of Modern Art/Center of Industrial Design, public information library open to everyone (BPI), exhibition galleries, cinemas, shows and concert halls and a research centre for contemporary music (IRCAM). The National Museum of Modern Art represents one of the world's finest collections of modern and contemporary art from 1905 to the present day: Miró, Giacometti, Dubuffet, Picasso, Matisse, Léger, Chagall, Kandinsky, Warhol, Ben, César... The Brancusi workshop presents a magnificent collection of works by Constantin Brancusi, major artist in the history of modern sculpture.
